My New PC Won’t Power On, What Should I Check?

I just built my new PC, but when I press the power button, nothing happens. The CPU and case fans don't spin at all. Here are my specs: Ryzen 7 1700 CPU, RX 580 GPU, ASUS Prime B350-E motherboard, 8GB DDR4 RAM, and a Gigabyte 620W PSU. I believe the PSU is functioning since there's a red light on the motherboard's rear I/O area when I turn it on. But when I hit the power button, there's no response. I'm unsure if it's a motherboard issue, wiring problem, or something else. Has anyone else dealt with this or have suggestions on what to check first?

Hey! First off, congrats on your new build! If nothing is spinning, it might be something simple. Check that the front panel power switch connector (PWR_SW) is in the right place on the motherboard. You can also try to short the power pins with a screwdriver to see if that starts it up. Also, don't forget to check the 8-pin CPU power cable at the top of the motherboard—it's easy to overlook! The red light near the I/O area is normal; it just means the motherboard is getting standby power. I'm leaning more toward a wiring issue rather than a dead motherboard.

It's essential to ensure that all your case wires are plugged into the correct pins. The labels on the motherboard can be tiny and tricky. If everything seems connected correctly, double-check that all components are seated properly. Sometimes, it's just a matter of a loose connection!

Make sure to check the PSU itself, even if the red light is on. Sometimes a PSU can provide just enough power for LEDs but not enough to actually turn on the components. If you have a spare PSU, it might be worth trying it to rule that out.
