Hey folks, I'm looking to upgrade from my i7-10700KF because I just jumped from an RTX 3070 Ti to a 5070. The GPU is awesome, but my CPU is definitely holding me back, maxing out at 100% and only allowing the GPU to run at about 80%. Even with frame generation, my FPS isn't stable enough to enjoy gaming on my 1440p 240Hz OLED. RAM prices are crazy, so I'd like to stick with my 32GB 3600MHz DDR4 kit for now. What's the best way to upgrade both my CPU and motherboard, keeping costs low without wasting my DDR4 sticks, and maybe considering future DDR5 upgrades as well?

Going for an LGA 1700 board with DDR4 support and a Intel 12th or 13th Gen chip seems like the way to go. It’ll not only match your GPU well but also keep your upgrade options open for the future.
The i5-14600K is a solid choice. Just steer clear of the i9-14900K, as it's more suited for workstations. The i7-14700K isn’t a significant upgrade from the i5; you’ll get better value with the 14600K. It's perfect for your gaming needs without breaking the bank!
You could explore AM4 chips, but they can be pricey on the used market, especially for the X3D options. An LGA 1700 board with a 12th or 13th Gen Intel CPU using DDR4 is likely your best bet. It's a solid upgrade path without getting stuck with DDR5 right now.
I recently upgraded to a 13900KF from the 10700K. I found an affordable DDR4 ASUS motherboard for around $100, which made the upgrade pretty painless. You don't need to go for the highest-end CPU if your main goal is gaming!
If you're looking to stick with DDR4, I recommend going with an Intel i5-14600K and a compatible B760 motherboard. Make sure the motherboard has at least 8 phases (10+ is better) with good VRM heatsinking to ensure optimal performance. If you want to explore more advanced overclocking features, a Z690 or Z790 motherboard might be a good fit too.

Thanks for the advice! Do you think a BIOS update would be required for that setup?
