I'm trying to revive an old TV that my dad no longer uses, so I can play some PS2 and PS3 games on it. The issue is that the power button on the TV is broken, and I don't have the original remote either. We do have a universal remote, but I need the TV to be powered on first for it to work. Unfortunately, it's not a smart TV, so using any associated apps for control isn't an option. I'm looking for any suggestions on how to get the TV to turn on without the remote or a functioning power button.

If your PS3 supports CEC, turning that feature on could help. When you power up the PS3, it may automatically turn the TV on if the TV also supports CEC. However, given that it's an older TV, there's a chance it doesn't support this feature, but it's worth a shot!
Check out the model of your universal remote. Sometimes they have a setting where you can enter a code specific to your TV brand and model. Many universal remotes have two programming modes: one where it cycles through codes, and another where you manually input codes from a list. If you can find the code, you might get it working without needing the power button to start.
I will try that! Fingers crossed it works. I'd hate for the TV to go to waste.
You might want to check eBay for the original remote for your specific TV model. Sometimes, it's easier and not too expensive to just get the actual remote rather than figuring all of this out!
If you're feeling adventurous, you could try opening the TV case and see if you can bypass the power switch directly on the circuit board. Just make sure to unplug it before you start poking around. Might be a bit risky, but if the TV is already not functional, what do you have to lose?
Are you sure the TV is completely without a power button? Sometimes it's located in a less obvious place like the bottom or side. Also, if you can find an old universal remote that lets you program it manually using a list of codes, that could be a good backup plan.
I didn’t mean to imply there’s no power button; it just doesn’t work.

Good point! Just remember to check if the CEC option is activated on the TV.
