Did a Defective Motherboard Damage My CPU?

Hi everyone! I recently had a Ryzen 5600G with 16 GB of RAM on an ASRock B450M motherboard. I was testing three other motherboards, one of which was mostly defective. I used my CPU on all of them to see if they would post, and three worked fine. However, the defective motherboard didn't power on at all. After testing, I returned my CPU to my original build, but now it powers on without displaying anything, and the CPU isn't even heating up. I'm wondering if that defective motherboard could have caused damage to my CPU. Also, is it possible for one CPU to survive a situation like this while another doesn't? I was told it was my fault for not fully powering off the motherboard before swapping, but I've swapped it three times before without an issue. Any insights?

It sounds like that defective motherboard probably overloaded your CPU. If it was giving off too much voltage, that could kill the CPU pretty quickly. It's definitely a risk when you test components like that.

Thanks for the input! I really just want to settle the blame here. Is it common for one CPU to survive these tests while another one doesn’t? I’ve swapped CPUs multiple times without issues before.

What’s your PSU like? If you're not using a decent surge protector, you might really want to consider getting one, especially if it’s been over three years since you bought yours. They can wear out after a few years and stop protecting your components.

I'm using a Cooler Master 500W, but I don’t have a surge protector.
