Hi everyone! I'm contemplating whether to upgrade my gaming PC or just get a new one entirely. Right now, I have an HP OMEN 880-p0xx, and here are my current specs:
- CPU: RYZEN 5 1400 Quad-core
- GPU: Radeon RX 570
- RAM: 32 GB DDR5
I'm thinking about upgrading to a RYZEN 7 1800X for the CPU and a Radeon RX 6700 XT for the GPU. I've been struggling to play most games on low settings, and I'm particularly keen on trying Elden Ring with some mods. Would upgrading really make that much difference? Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated!

Honestly, going for a RYZEN 7 1800X in 2026 probably isn't the best plan. Instead of just upgrading, I think it's better to replace your entire PC. A RYZEN 5 5600X or 5700X3D would be a significant improvement and shouldn’t cost too much if you shop around. The RX 6700 XT is a solid choice too, especially for 1080p gameplay! Also, keep an eye on ram costs—they're pretty high at the moment, so consider that in your budget. If you really want better performance, you might look for a 9060XT or even a 9070, as those will keep you gaming smoothly for years to come.
It looks like you're mixing up some details about RAM. DDR5 isn't compatible with your current AM4 motherboard, which actually requires DDR4. If you're indeed using DDR4, that's good news for an upgrade! For the CPU, look for the 2600, 2700, or 2700x as options. Skip the 1800X since there isn't much of a performance gain there. Just make sure your power supply can handle the RX 6700 XT, as it draws significantly more power than your current card.
What’s your total budget? I’m considering buying a monitor that matches whatever I decide on for the PC. I've got about $800 set aside for that.

If I go the new PC route, I’d be budgeting around $1500 total, but it might take me a bit to save. For upgrades, I’d like to stick under $700, but that’s tough given how long I’ve had this setup.
