Why can’t I play this game demo on my Windows PC?

I'm trying to run a demo for a game that's been on my wishlist, but it's not launching properly on my Windows system. I keep getting this message: "DirectX 12 is not supported on your system. Try running without the -dx12 or -d3d12 command line argument." I'm not sure what this means or how to fix it. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to help me get this game to work?

Make sure to update your post with the details about your system and the game. It might just be a simple fix by adding one of those launch arguments. We'll be able to help you better once we have more info!

Your graphics card might be too outdated to support DirectX 12. It's like asking an old car to use new fuel. I recommend right-clicking the game in your library, going to properties, and then setting the launch options. Try adding `-dx11` or `-dx9` instead. If that doesn’t work, then it might just be time to upgrade your GPU, as some games have left older hardware behind.

That's actually really useful, thanks!

First, you should provide details about your system and check the game's requirements to make sure your system can handle it. Also, a quick web search about the error you're seeing could provide some insights specific to that game.

What game are you trying to play? Also, it would really help to know the specifications of your system. Without that info, it's tough to troubleshoot.
