My PC Suddenly Shut Down While Gaming – Is It the GPU or PSU?

Hey folks, I need some help figuring out what went wrong with my PC. I have an Asus RTX 3070, and while I was loading into a match of CS, my PC just powered off completely. It's been running perfectly for about 5-6 years without any issues until now.

The motherboard still lights up, showing that it's getting power, and after unplugging the power supply and plugging it back in, I noticed some clicking sounds coming from the GPU. I tried unplugging the PCI cables from the GPU, and my PC actually booted up fine, but since I don't have integrated graphics, I couldn't do much.

What's confusing me is whether the power supply is dead or if my GPU has failed. I just ordered a 5060 TI and hope it arrives soon so I can see if that fixes the problem. Any thoughts on whether it could really be the PSU?

It sounds like the graphics card might be the issue here, especially since your PC starts up fine when you disconnect it. However, there’s a chance that the PSU could be weak and not providing enough power to the GPU, which is why it might be clicking. It’s best to wait for your new 5060 TI to arrive and see if that resolves it. If it runs without any hiccups, you'll have a good indication that the old GPU was the culprit.

Given that you’re using a budget PSU, it could very well be failing. After about 6 years, that’s typically when issues start appearing, especially when the PSU has to handle more power. I'd recommend waiting to see what happens when you install the new GPU. If it works, then you can suspect the PSU was the problem.
