What Graphics Card Can I Upgrade to Without Changing My CPU?

I'm looking to upgrade my GPU without having to replace my CPU. Currently, I have an Intel Core i7-7700 running at 3.60GHz, paired with an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 3GB of memory. My motherboard is an ASUS H110-Plus. I've had this PC for about 10 years now, and I'm wondering if it's worth it to upgrade my GPU. I'd appreciate any advice or recommendations on compatible graphics cards that won't bottleneck my processor too much. Let me know if you need more information!

For gaming, ideally, you'd want your GPU to be the limiting factor, not your CPU. I wouldn't go beyond an RX 9600 XT or an RTX 3070 if you're looking for balance in your system.

The i7-7700 will limit performance with any modern GPU, but you'll definitely see improvements if you upgrade from the 1060 3GB. If you're looking for something current, the RX 9600 XT 16GB would be a great choice. If you're open to secondhand options, you might find an RTX 3070 at good prices right now. Even a 2060 Super could work well to boost your gaming experience.

You might find RTX 3070s going for around $220 on the used market, which is a solid deal. The RX 9600 XT is also one of the best budget-friendly new options compatible with PCIe 3.0 systems. Honestly, sticking with used cards might save you a lot.

What’s your budget? If it’s modest, something like an RX 6600 or 7600 or an RTX 2060 will be solid. A little bottlenecking isn't the end of the world; you'll still notice a significant upgrade. Just keep in mind your PSU's capabilities.

You could consider the RX 9600 XT for reduced CPU overhead. It offers solid performance and enough VRAM to last through future upgrades. Just a thought!
