Is Entra ID Sync Essential for Businesses with On-Prem AD?

I've been discussing with my team at a small IT management firm about the necessity of Entra ID Sync for our clients. Many of my colleagues believe that using Entra ID Sync isn't necessary, suggesting we could just rely on strong passwords and help users when they forget. However, I feel strongly that if a customer is already using Entra ID or Office 365 along with an on-premises Active Directory, then setting up Entra ID Sync is crucial. I'm confused about why they would want to go this route instead, especially considering the potential risks of managing user passwords directly. Can anyone help clarify the situation?

I completely agree with you! It’s baffling that your colleagues would want to stick with manual password management, especially when Entra ID Sync can streamline the whole process. Having one password for both environments just makes sense and is way more secure. You’re not just helping users avoid headaches; it also reduces the risks of password mishaps.

Exactly! Plus, managing passwords directly can lead to huge security risks. It’s just so much easier to sync everything and let Entra handle the rest.

You’re spot on! Entra ID Sync not only helps with account management but also enhances security. Just setting strong passwords isn’t enough anymore with all the cybersecurity threats we face. Plus, the ability to use features like MFA significantly improves your company's security posture.

Exactly! Users love ease, and Entra can help streamline authentication across the board with SSO options. Once everyone gets on board, it will be a game-changer!

Setting Entra ID Sync up correctly is key. A lot of times, people are hesitant simply because they’re not familiar with the technology. But once you’ve got things running, the benefits are huge! And don’t forget about enabling password writeback; that helps keep everything in sync if users need to change their passwords.

Yes! And make sure to communicate with users when they’re resetting passwords to avoid any last-minute chaos if systems haven't synced yet.

It sounds like they might be just stuck in their old ways. Entra ID Sync is beneficial for any business with a hybrid setup. Your colleagues' way might seem simpler, but in the long run, it creates more work and increases security vulnerabilities. It’s time to adapt to the tools that make our jobs easier and our clients' experiences better!

Totally! Some people are just resistant to change. I’ve seen that too, where older techs prefer sticking to what they know instead of embracing new tools.
