I'm currently using Linux Mint, but I'm thinking about switching to Fedora. What are the best steps to take to ensure I don't lose any of my files or important data? Should I be backing up specific directories, and if so, which ones are essential to save? Thanks for any help!

You can try a live boot of Fedora and mount your storage. This way, you can access your files without making any changes to your current setup. It's a safe way to experiment with the new distro without risking your data.

If you want to keep your data intact, make sure your /home directory is on its own partition or even better, on a separate physical drive. I've used the same /home drive while switching distros multiple times, and it's worked great. Just back up everything in your /home folder, including hidden files and folders, to be safe.

Don't forget to check out some installation tips that might help you with the switch! For the best experience, install over an ethernet cable and remember to remove the boot media once you're done.
