I have an older ROG Strix Z390-E Gaming motherboard from around 2019 that came from a previous computer that stopped working. I'm unsure what exactly failed, so I'm hesitant to take apart my current setup to test it out. The catch is that there are about half a dozen bent pins in the CPU socket. Is it possible to repair them by bending them back, or should I consider it beyond saving?

You can bend them back, but be cautious as they are thin and can snap. If you manage to fix them, it should still be usable assuming there are no other underlying issues with the motherboard itself.
Yes, bending the pins back is delicate work, but it's definitely doable! You can use a pin and a utility knife blade to carefully nudge them back into place. Just take your time with it. It doesn't seem like it would cause lasting damage as long as you’re careful; if you get them back straight, you might even be able to sell the motherboard as functional later on! Just keep in mind you won't be able to fully test it without a working computer.
