Hey everyone, I'm tired of how bloated Windows has become and I'm seriously considering switching to Linux full-time. I've previously dual-booted with Ubuntu for software development, but now I'm specifically looking for a Linux distro that's great for gaming. My setup includes an RTX 3060 and an Intel 13500F CPU, plus I use two monitors. My main games are League of Legends, Minecraft, and several Steam games like Elden Ring, Cyberpunk 2077, and Genshin Impact. I'm curious which distros you all are using and what you'd recommend for my specs. I'm open to some tinkering, so while an out-of-the-box experience would be nice, it's not a must-have. Thanks!

League of Legends won't run on Linux, unfortunately. If you want to play that, you might have to dual boot. The good news is that the other games you mentioned should work fine! I’d recommend checking out ProtonDB for game compatibility. Just keep that in mind if you're all in on Linux for the rest.

You can game on just about any distro, especially with Steam. Most will support Nvidia drivers easily. I’m using Pop!_OS right now because it comes with the drivers included, but check out Bazzite or CachyOS as well—they have built-in support for Nvidia which is super helpful!

Honestly, it doesn’t really matter which distro you choose. Pick one that feels comfortable to you! If you want to tweak things for better performance, you could customize your kernel, but for many games, a standard install will work fine. Just know that there might be some minor adjustments needed for the Nvidia drivers.

If you don’t mind dual booting, it might be a good idea since League is not supporting Linux natively. For other games, you could really enjoy playing on Mint, Ubuntu, or Bazzite. Each of these has strong gaming compatibility but do some research on which might suit your preferences best.

I suggest trying Bazzite; I've been using it for a couple of weeks, and everything works perfectly out of the box with my RTX 4070. Just check ProtonDB to see how your games will perform. It's really smooth so far!
