Hey everyone! I'm trying to find a way to completely disable the microphone on my iPhone, beyond just tweaking the privacy and security settings. I'd love a solution similar to unplugging a USB mic on my computer, where I can be sure it's completely off unless I actively turn it on. My concern here stems from a general fear of being listened to. I've been noticing a rise in targeted ads and suggestions on Google and YouTube that seem eerily related to conversations I've had with friends, which really freaks me out. Any suggestions? Thanks!

It’s understandable to feel concerned, but trust me, the chances of someone actually listening to you are pretty slim. It’s often just coincidences or data from different sources that lead to those targeted ads. You’re not being monitored by a person!
This is kinda unrelated, but I noticed something odd too! I was talking about Resident Evil at a friend's place, and later when I typed 'res' on YouTube, Resident Evil 7 popped up first. It seems like a huge coincidence! Could my phone be listening? I’ve avoided any RE searches recently to steer clear of spoilers.
Honestly, if you're really worried, the best route is to remove the microphone access from all apps, but there’s not a straightforward way to fully disable it on the phone itself. Just remember, paranoia can be intense, and snooping through these means is usually illegal in most places—you’re likely fine!
If you want to completely ensure privacy, the easiest method is to physically destroy the microphone in the phone. Otherwise, you can just use AirPods or other Bluetooth headphones when you need a mic, but that wouldn’t help much for complete silence.

I hear you, but companies are definitely using audio data for training AI. A lot of apps and games mention it in their terms, so it feels like our phones might always be listening, even if no one is actively. Just something to keep in mind!
