Best Dual Monitor Setup for Gaming: Widescreen vs. Standard?

I'm considering setting up a dual monitor system and I'm a bit confused about what would work best for me. I have a budget of around £3000, and since I already have my mouse and keyboard, I want to focus on monitors. My primary use will be gaming, particularly fast-paced games and strategy titles, plus I dabble in some work with programs like Fusion 360 and web browsing. I'm thinking about getting a widescreen monitor, for instance, the Alienware 34 Gaming Monitor (AW3425DW), along with a second, less expensive monitor that I would mount vertically for use with web pages and Discord while I'm gaming. However, I'm concerned that having a cheaper monitor next to a high-end Alienware display may look bad. How do people find using widescreen curved monitors for gaming? Would I be better off choosing a flat monitor alongside my vertical one? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

In my experience, it's best to have your main monitor be the higher quality one. I use a 34-inch ultrawide as my primary display, flanked by two 27-inch monitors in portrait mode, mainly for Discord and webpages. The difference in quality is negligible for basic tasks. The 4K monitor looks sharper for text, but swapping out the 1080p for a 4k just wouldn’t be worth it for how I use them.

Totally agree! I’m running a 1080p on the side too, and it’s perfect for streaming and non-gaming tasks.
