Can I Use Only One Plug from a Dual 2×4 Power Cable for My Power Supply?

I recently faced some power issues while daisy chaining my 5080 power supply. I found a second 2x4 power cable from EVGA in the box and tried to connect it to a VGA slot, but when I did so, I got a red light indicating it wasn't getting enough power, along with a white light on the motherboard. When I reverted back to the daisy chain, everything worked again. Now I have another 2x4 plug option, should I try connecting it with one of the plugs unplugged like before? Just to clarify, all my plugs are from EVGA and my power supply is an EVGA SERIES G6 1000W.

Hold on a second! It's crucial to check compatibility with a multimeter first. EVGA has had issues with different pinouts in the same model, which could lead to frying your PC. Just because they’re all EVGA plugs doesn’t guarantee they’re compatible without verification.

Yeah, it's generally fine to use just one plug from a dual 2x4 cable, but I recommend switching to a proper direct PSU double 8-pin to 12vhpwr connection instead of that adapter. It’ll simplify your cable management too.
