Best CPU Upgrade for an Old Ryzen 5 1600 Build?

I'm looking to upgrade my PC so I can install Windows 11 without dealing with any unsupported installation workarounds. I currently have a Ryzen 5 1600, RX580, and a B350 Tomahawk motherboard. Should I consider getting a used Ryzen 5 2600 to meet the minimum requirements, or are used processors generally unreliable? I'm also open to purchasing a new CPU, but I want to keep costs low.

I'd advise against the 2600; instead, try to find a used Ryzen 5 3600 or even a new 5500 if you can stretch the budget a bit. They’re priced reasonably and will handle modern games much better. Plus, check out places like Aliexpress—I've snagged a 5600X there and it works great!

Yeah, anything above the 2600 is going to give you a much better performance boost. Definitely a good move!

It looks like the Ryzen 5 2600 will work, but it might not be reliable moving forward since it's been removed from some compatibility lists for Windows 11. I’d go with the Ryzen 5 3600 to ensure you’re set for the future. And don't worry too much about going used, just make sure to buy from a reputable seller!

If you're not wanting to spend too much, used CPUs are generally a solid choice. They can last quite a while, and as long as you check for things like bent pins and make sure the seller is trustworthy, you should be fine. Just remember, you might want to avoid old chips like the 2600 and consider going for something like the Ryzen 5 3600 or 3700 for a better experience.

You can find a Ryzen 5 3600 for around $50, or a new Ryzen 5 5500 for about $78. Both are great options for handling current games.

Just make sure your motherboard can support the newer CPUs; you might need a BIOS update to get something like the 3000 series Ryzen running.
