Is the Stock Cooler for the Ryzen 7 5800XT Good Enough for Gaming?

I'm upgrading from a Ryzen 3600 to a Ryzen 5800XT, and it comes with a stock cooler. I'm wondering if this cooler is sufficient for gaming performance and if it tends to be noisy. Should I just stick with it, or would it be better to invest in an aftermarket cooler right off the bat?

The stock cooler is pretty basic, so it should handle gaming without issue, but expect it to be a bit noisy during intense sessions. It’s really the bare minimum for this CPU, so keep that in mind if noise levels are a concern.

The 5800XT comes with the Wraith Prism stock cooler, which is actually a step up from the standard ones like Wraith Stealth. It's got copper heat pipes and should keep your CPU cool without being super loud. Overall, it's a solid choice if you're not planning on heavy overclocking.

I'd suggest getting a dual tower air cooler for better temperatures. I run a Deep Cool AS500 PLUS with my 5700X3D and it never goes above 70°C even under full load, plus I deal with a pretty hot climate!

Why not try it out first? The stock cooler will get the job done. Just remember, if it’s too loud or the temps aren’t what you want, then you can consider an aftermarket option. It might not be as shiny as others, but it should keep your CPU running fine for most gaming needs.

Thanks, I'll definitely test it out first! If I decide to go for an aftermarket cooler, how much of a hassle is it to install on my AM4 motherboard? Do I need to remove a lot of stuff from my case?

Yes, the stock cooler is adequate for gaming. Just keep in mind it will be noisier compared to a high-quality aftermarket cooler. If you find the noise bothersome when you test it, consider upgrading then.
