Hey everyone! I'm currently using a Cat7 ethernet cable with my Archer60c router, which is capped at 100 Mbps. I know I have a faster internet plan, but I'm not sure how to check its speed. I'm thinking about upgrading to an ASUS TUF router that costs around $300 NZD. If I do upgrade, will my ping (ms) get better? Is this upgrade going to make a significant difference?

Nope, upgrading your internet speed won't really affect your ping unless you're maxing out your bandwidth. Ping is more about the latency of your connection, and unless you're constantly hitting your bandwidth limit, you shouldn't expect much change in ms.
You likely won't notice much change in ping since gaming data isn't bandwidth-heavy. You might find downloading games faster, but that's about it.
You should definitely reach out to your ISP to get details about your current internet plan. If your router is stuck at 100 Mbps, it's definitely time for an upgrade!
You probably won't see a sizable difference in ping, but upgrading your router is still a smart move for security reasons. Any router that's not gigabit is pretty outdated. Also, just a heads up—Cat7 cables are not actually a recognized standard.
Upgrading might help if there are multiple users in the house since 100 Mbps could get congested. If it’s under heavy load, it could lead to ping spikes. However, if you're not constantly maxing it out, the upgrade might not impact your ping much, but it will improve download speeds, which is nice for larger files!
That's right. Bandwidth is about how much data you can send/receive, while latency is the time it takes for data to reach its destination. Gaming typically doesn't use a ton of bandwidth—often around 10 Mbps or less—so your ping shouldn’t change much unless you upgrade and are consistently drawing on your max capacity.

How can I tell if I'm hitting my bandwidth limit?
