Why is my monitor stuck at 60Hz after using an HDMI splitter?

Hey folks, I'm having some trouble with my setup. I was running my Xbox Series X on a Samsung Odyssey G7 monitor, which is supposed to handle 4K at 144Hz, and everything was working perfectly with 120fps. Recently, I decided to add an HDMI 2.1 splitter so I could switch easily between my monitor and a basic Vizio 4K 60Hz TV. I picked up a Rocketfish HDMI 2.1 splitter and two Acer HDMI 2.1 cables. However, now I'm only getting 4K at 60Hz on my monitor. I checked the reviews for both the splitter and the cables, and they all claimed they support 120Hz, so I'm not sure what's going wrong. Any tips on how to get my 120fps working on the monitor again?

Make sure your Xbox is set up to output at 120Hz as well. Sometimes settings might get overridden when connecting new hardware. You should check the display settings on your console.

Also, if you haven’t already, update your monitor’s firmware; manufacturers release updates to fix issues like these sometimes.

Have you tried the new cables on their own without the splitter? That might be where the issue lies. It’s worth testing them to see if the 120Hz works by directly connecting to the monitor.

Also, double-check that you’re using the right HDMI port on your monitor. The G7 might only have one port that supports HDMI 2.1, so make sure you're plugged into that one.

Remember, some HDMI splitters need to be powered, so ensure that your splitter is plugged in as well.

Lastly, check if your monitor's settings got reset. You might need to enable the 'input signal plus' option for the HDMI port you’re using. You can find this in the system settings.

If all else fails, consider testing with another HDMI 2.1 cable that you know works. Compatibility can be weird, and just because they’re rated for 2.1 doesn’t mean they’ll always perform as expected with every setup.
