I've just replaced the failed hard drive in my older 2017 PC with a new SSD and reinstalled Windows 10. My setup includes a Core i7-8700, 16GB DDR4 RAM at 3000MHz, and a GTX 1060 6GB for gaming. The system seems decent for midrange gaming, but I'm considering boosting my GPU for better performance. I'm looking at the Asus 5060 8GB priced at $340. Is that too powerful of an upgrade for my old machine?

I think a 3060 would be just right for your setup! It should give you a nice bump in performance without pushing your system too hard.
I'd steer clear of the 5060 8GB; it's not a great upgrade. The limited PCIe bandwidth will hold it back significantly, especially with your older CPU. I recommend going for a 9060 XT 8GB instead; that would alleviate some performance issues thanks to better PCIe support.
What motherboard are you using? Knowing your mobo can really help in assessing compatibility.
Honestly, the PCIe lanes of your setup might hold back the performance of the 5060. It could be wiser to save up and consider upgrading the entire system instead.

I'm using an Asrock B360M Extreme.
