I recently had my iPhone repaired because it wouldn't turn on, and a hard reset didn't work. After getting it back, I updated iCloud, but it only restored photos up to 2024. None of my apps were reinstalled, which I'm okay with, but I lost two years' worth of important photos. I didn't have iCloud Pro and only had 5GB of storage. Is there any way to recover those lost photos?

Unfortunately, it sounds like if those photos weren’t backed up before the reset, they’re likely gone for good. Apple strongly advises creating backups, and if you didn’t do that, you probably won’t be able to retrieve them.
If your photos were only on the phone and not backed up, I'm afraid they've been lost after the reset. It’s a good idea to always have a backup plan in place—consider using additional cloud services or even an external drive in the future.
This seems to be an iCloud backup issue rather than the repair itself. If iCloud Photos wasn’t enabled or your 5GB was full, those newer photos wouldn't have synced. It’s worth checking iCloud.com for ‘Recently Deleted’ and seeing if you have any old iTunes or Finder backups.
Yeah, once you do a factory reset, it wipes everything that wasn’t backed up, including the encryption key needed for recovery. If nothing was saved to iCloud or any other service, there’s really no way to get those photos back.
