Can I Use My External Hard Drive to Create a Bootable Ubuntu Installer?

I'm completely new to Linux and I don't have a USB flash drive, but I do have a 1TB external hard drive that I've partitioned into a 920GB section and an 8GB section. The 8GB section holds the extracted files from the Ubuntu ISO. Is it possible to use my external hard drive as a bootable installer for Ubuntu on my main SSD? Right now, when I go into the BIOS and select the hard drives, only the original physical drive appears, not the external one.

I suggest picking up a couple of flash drives. Having a USB with a Linux live image can be invaluable in case you run into issues. Just having the ISO's files on your drive likely won't make it bootable unless it's configured correctly.

How can I configure it to make it seen as a bootable device?
