Why Does My Monitor Randomly Go Black for a Few Seconds?

I've been experiencing an issue where my monitor goes completely black for about 2 to 4 seconds at random times. I've already tried reinstalling the drivers and followed various troubleshooting steps, but nothing seems to solve the problem. One suggestion I came across was to switch my monitor to 60Hz, but it's an Acer KS271, and I'm not sure if that would help. I've also switched between three different HDMI cables, but the issue persists. I'm planning to buy DisplayPort cables since my tower only has one HDMI slot and two DisplayPort ports, plus I can't set up multiple monitors at the moment. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated!

I read that clearing the thumbnail cache might help with blinking issues. If you haven't tried that yet, it could be worth a shot!

I just cleared it out, so we'll see if it makes a difference!

No luck, still happening. This is frustrating!

When I faced this issue, it turned out to be my HDMI cable too. Replacing it fixed the problem for me!

Sounds like your HDMI cable could be on its last legs. If you've got three cables that aren't working, it might be time to try a fresh one.

You think all three of them could be bad? I haven’t tried the one from my console, and that one has always worked well.

It might also be something with your computer itself. How old is it? Have you done any cleaning? If the thermal paste is old, that could cause issues too. Running some system checks like DISM, CHKDSK, and SFC might help as well.

It's relatively new. I ran those checks and everything looks fine. Planning to replace the cables tomorrow, so fingers crossed!

This might sound odd, but I dealt with something similar for years. My office chair had a tiny rip that caused static electricity buildup, which messed with my display. To fix it, I replaced the chair upholstery and attached a grounding wire to my mousepad. If changing drivers or cables doesn’t work, consider if something like this could be affecting you too.

I never knew that was a thing! That's really interesting.

I had a similar thought! I noticed my monitor goes black every time I get up from my chair. Now I'm curious to investigate that.
