I recently built a PC and used a USB drive to install Windows 11. Now that I'm done with it, I want to wipe all the data off the USB and use it like a regular drive. However, I keep seeing a message that says, "this USB is write protected." I've tried a bunch of different ways to fix this, but nothing seems to work. Is there a way to clear it, or am I stuck?

If it's an official Windows 11 USB drive, it might be intentionally write-locked to prevent malicious changes. At this moment, it might be more cost-effective to simply buy a new USB drive. You can find larger ones for not much more than the original size at a low price. Your time may be better spent rather than trying to unlock this one.
It sounds like the drive might be in read-only mode to prevent accidental deletions or changes to important files. If that's the case, storing the USB for future use could be wise. You might need it for a reinstall down the line.
Have you tried formatting the USB drive instead of just deleting the files? If it was a retail package Windows 11 drive, sometimes they come with a read-only memory that can't be erased. If that's the case, it might be easier to just keep this drive as a backup and get a new blank one instead; they can come in handy for OS recovery later on.
Some USB drives actually have a physical switch on the side that sets write protect on and off. Make sure to check for that! If that’s not the case, you can try using the Diskpart tool to clear the read-only flag. Just open the command prompt, type in 'diskpart', then 'attributes disk clear readonly' to see if that helps.
