Need Help Accessing Mac After Changing Apple ID

I'm facing an issue with my MacBook that used to belong to my mother. Recently, I switched it to my Apple ID, and while I set up Touch ID, I wasn't prompted to create a password. Now, it's asking for a password to use Touch ID, and I can't access my laptop. I've tried leaving the password field empty, entering various passwords, and even my mother's old password, but nothing seems to work. Any advice on how I can regain access?

Double-check if it’s a legitimate login screen; you wouldn’t want to accidentally enter your info into a fake one. A friend had a similar issue and ended up trying to log in with every password he knew.

Since you didn’t set a password, it’s likely still using your mom’s old one saved in the keychain. If you can figure out what that is, give it a shot! Otherwise, I had a similar situation where the original owner forgot the password. I just went to my local Apple Store, and they helped me out for free. It might be worth a trip even though it's a hassle.

It’s odd you could set up Touch ID without a password since that’s typically required. To resolve this, you might want to restart your Mac and hold the power button until it boots into recovery mode. Then, open Terminal from the Utilities menu and type 'resetpassword' (without the quotes). This should prompt you to sign in with your Apple ID and allow you to change the password.

You're definitely going to need a password of some sort to use Touch ID. Usually, the system will still expect the Apple ID password, so try that as well. Good luck!
