Should I Use a 12VHPWR Cable or Buy Another 6+2 for My PC Build?

I'm building a setup with a 9950X3D CPU and a 5080 Astral GPU. My HX1000i PSU came with two PCIe cables that are piggy-tailed with 6+2 connectors. However, the adapter for the 5080 requires three 6+2 pins. I've read that using piggy-tailed connections can be risky. How many watts can Corsair's Type 4 12VHPWR cables handle? Is it safe to just go with the 12VHPWR option instead?

If your PSU has a 12VHPWR port, definitely use that. The adapter is designed for older PSUs that lack support for 12VHPWR cables. If not, go with the two cables and just pigtail one of them. But be cautious!

So, you think the pigtails can be risky? Are they known to melt easily?

Wait, I thought all ports on my PSU were PCIe? What do you mean by 12VHPWR?

Actually, you should avoid both options mentioned. Instead, get a 12V-2X6 cable. The 12VHPWR connectors have been known to melt, and the 12V-2X6 is a safer alternative. Check out Corsair's website for a suitable cable.

So, should I just buy a cable kit for the PCIe to 12V-2X6? My current PSU has two of those, but I heard piggy-tailing is not recommended.
