I'm looking for some guidance on how to move forward with my gaming PC setup. I built a high-performance PC back in early 2021, featuring an O-11D case, an Intel i7-10850K processor, an ASUS Z590 motherboard, a Cooler Master 360 AIO cooler, and an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3090 graphics card. I also have 64GB of high-speed DDR4 RAM and a couple of solid-state drives. My PC's been rock solid for a while, but recently I've been experiencing rising GPU temperatures and some technical glitches like occasional crashes and high CPU usage while multitasking. With the market in turmoil, I'm hesitant to start a completely new build, but I found a new Intel i9-14900KF processor and a Z790 motherboard for about $450. I'm not sure if I should upgrade the CPU now while I'm doing maintenance or wait for better options in the future, especially since I'm already dealing with a significant CPU bottleneck. Any thoughts on whether I should make the upgrade or stick with my current setup?

First off, a fresh Windows install could really help clear up a lot of accumulated software issues you've mentioned. Windows can get bogged down with junk over time, and a fresh start might solve some of your performance problems. After that, make sure to install that new AIO cooler you have waiting around. But about that CPU upgrade—consider waiting a bit longer. If you don't really *need* the extra E-cores from the 14900K, you might be better off looking for a Zen 6 or Intel Nova Lake setup next year after some of the craziness in the market settles down. That's my two cents!
Regarding your RAM, you should definitely keep your DDR4 setup. There's evidence that after 3200MHz, many games don't see much performance improvement. I watched a video recently that analyzed FPS differences between 3600MHz and 6000MHz, and the gains were minimal. Also, consider looking into the i5-14600K as it offers similar performance to the 14900K but is less power-hungry and way cheaper. It might be a better long-term option for managing heat and costs!
Thanks for the insights! That video made me feel a lot better about sticking with DDR4. I’m going to clean install Windows first and keep researching the 14600K as well.
You've got a solid system that can last a few more years with just some maintenance. I recommend a fresh OS installation (Windows 11 is great) and make sure all your drivers and BIOS are up to date. Cleaning out your hardware can help it run smoother too; there's a ton of DIY videos online showing how to do that safely. If you manage these, you might be able to squeeze out more performance without jumping to new parts just yet!
Just wiped and installed Windows 11! Also plan to tackle some thermal paste this weekend. Feeling optimistic about giving my setup a proper refresh.

I totally get what you're saying! Just did a fresh install earlier and it feels like a new PC already. I appreciate the advice, cheers!
