Experiencing Lag Spikes on My Gaming Laptop – Need Help!

I've been using my gaming laptop without any issues for about 14 months, but recently it started having severe lag spikes in games like War Thunder. Both the CPU and GPU start spiking uncontrollably as soon as I boot up a game. I've tried everything possible: I've taken it to a repair shop three times, updated all the drivers, replaced the cooling paste, optimized my games, and cleared out storage. However, nothing seems to fix the problem, and I can only manage to stream or play low-end games, which still experience lag. This issue started shortly after I updated my Minecraft launcher, but I'm not sure if it's connected. When I left my laptop idle in the War Thunder lobby, it crashed after 20 minutes. I've also tested other high-end games like Half Sword and RE2, and I encounter the same lag and crashes. The repair shop suggested using putty instead of cooling paste because they think the heat pads are blocking airflow. If that doesn't work, they don't have any other suggestions. Additionally, I found an unknown file labeled hwmonitor_1.62 in my downloads, and I'm curious if it could be related to the problem. Any insight would be really appreciated, as my laptop is currently unusable for gaming. Thanks!

It really sounds like a typical case of laptop overheating. Those gaming sessions can really put a strain on your hardware. Are you planning to switch to putty as suggested? That might help with the airflow issues they mentioned.

Should I go ahead with the putty application, or would sticking with the cooling paste be better for now?

It sounds like your laptop is overheating, which is common in gaming laptops. Have you tried stress testing your GPU with a program like FurMark? Also, you can run a command in the terminal as an admin: type 'sfc /scannow'. If it finds any issues that it can't repair, try this one: 'DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth'. These could help you identify any underlying issues with your hardware.

Thanks, I’ll give it a shot! The repair guys mentioned they'll do a stress test when I bring it in to apply the putty, so I’ll try this in the meantime.
