Why is my RTX 5060 performing worse than my friend’s RTX 3050 laptop?

I'm really struggling with my PC's performance and I'm not sure what's going wrong. Here are my specs:

- **CPU:** AMD Ryzen 7 5700G
- **GPU:** NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5060
- **RAM:** 16GB DDR4 3200 (1 stick, single channel)
- **Motherboard:** ASRock A520M-HDV
- **Monitor:** Using a VGA monitor at 1366x768, connected via an active HDMI to VGA adapter.

The issue is that my games are running significantly slower than what I'd expect, even worse than my friend's laptop with an RTX 3050. For instance:
- In Palworld, I get around 36 FPS, while he enjoys around 60 FPS at a higher resolution.
- In Sons of the Forest, I'm only hitting about 25-30 FPS on ultra settings, while he has a stable 55-60 FPS.

This doesn't make sense since my desktop GPU should outperform his laptop GPU.

Here's what I've checked so far:
- NVIDIA Game Ready Driver is up to date.
- Windows is fully updated.
- BIOS settings look good.
- Temperatures are all normal.
- GPU-Z shows PCIe is running as expected.

I'm wondering if it could be due to my RAM running in single channel, the use of a VGA monitor with an HDMI to VGA adapter, or some other misconfiguration. Since my monitor resolution is quite low, I'd expect better performance.

Any troubleshooting tips or suggestions would be super helpful!

It sounds like there's a chance your system might be defaulting to the integrated GPU instead of the RTX 5060. Make sure that the HDMI cable is connected to the GPU and not to the motherboard. Also, using benchmarking software can help you confirm which GPU is actively being used; running some tests might provide clarity on the performance you're getting.

Another thing to check is the PCIe bus interface settings. If your RTX 5060 is only running at PCIe 3 speeds instead of PCIe 5, that could also lead to lower performance. Look into that as well!

Your single stick of RAM could definitely be a bottleneck for your GPU's performance. Gaming with only a single channel might be limiting the overall bandwidth and speed the GPU can access. Consider upgrading to a dual-channel setup for a boost in performance.

It's worth noting that the latest Windows updates can sometimes cause performance issues with NVIDIA GPUs. If you've just updated, consider rolling back to a previous version to see if that improves your FPS.
