Is Switching to Linux the Right Choice for Me?

I've been inspired by some videos from Linus Tech Tips and a reaction from Crisp Titus, which got me interested in switching to Linux as my daily operating system. Here's the setup I'm working with:

- CPU: i5 12400f
- RAM: 16GB DDR5
- GPU: RTX 3060 12GB
- Storage: 500GB NVMe and 1.3TB of HDD for cold storage (no Windows-related stuff).

What I prioritize:
- Gaming: I enjoy FPS games but also story-driven titles like Red Dead Redemption, The Last of Us 2, and Grand Theft Auto 5 and 4.
- Productivity: I mainly use SketchUp with Twinmotion and Solidworks, and I'm currently learning Blender. For editing, I use DaVinci Resolve, Affinity V3, and Adobe Photoshop.

I'm looking for advice on which Linux distribution to choose, and my current options are:
- Arch
- CatchyOS
- Pop!_OS
- Debian

If anyone has experience with these or any other suggestions, I'd really appreciate your help! Also, I've previously tried Linux on an old laptop (with an i3 processor, 2GB of RAM, and a 300GB HDD) and found a lightweight distro like Zorin OS Lite much better.

If you’re ready to dive into Linux and enjoy learning new things, it could definitely be worthwhile! Just know that it might take some adjustment. Stick with it, and you might end up loving it!

I enjoy challenges, but I’ve heard using Linux with Nvidia can be tricky. I'm trying a VM, and I’m starting to like Linux!

I've switched from Bazzite to Fedora for better customization, and it’s been a great learning experience for me. Just pick a distro you’re drawn to, follow some guides, and tweak as needed. You’ll be good to go!

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it!

Try creating a bootable USB with Ventoy and test your apps there. If everything runs smoothly, then switching to Linux should be easy! You can always use Windows as a fallback.

Thanks! I’ll definitely give that a try.

Absolutely, yes! I’m really enjoying the experience on my desktop compared to my laptop. Right now, I’m using a VM before fully committing to Linux. Give it a shot!

Totally agree! I think you'll really like it once you get into it.
