Which upgrade should I prioritize for my gaming setup?

Hey everyone! I recently upgraded my GPU to an RX 9070XT from an RX 6600XT, and I'm currently running a 1080p setup on an AM4 platform. I'm planning to transition to a 1440p OLED monitor soon, and I've noticed some bottlenecking with my CPU, which is a Ryzen 5600G. I'm also looking at an eventual upgrade to AM5 with a B850 motherboard and a Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU. I'm curious if I should get the 1440p monitor first to make the most of the RX 9070XT or focus on upgrading my CPU and motherboard first. Any advice?

Before you make any decisions, I'd ask what makes you think your CPU is holding you back? And just a tip: buying a single stick of RAM isn't the best idea. Aim for a 2 x 16GB kit if you're looking to upgrade to 32GB, because you'll get better performance with dual-channel memory.

Thanks for the RAM advice! I’ve been researching, and it seems like the CPU really impacts performance at 1080p, especially with a card designed for 2K/4K. When I played Cyberpunk 2077, my GPU usage was only around 60-70%, while my CPU was maxing out, which made me think I was bottlenecking.

Definitely go for the 9070XT and the monitor! Upgrading to a higher resolution will indeed help with the bottleneck. Plus, if DDR5 prices don’t get better, you could always switch to an Intel LGA 1700 platform and grab a 14700K which would outperform the 5600G significantly.

If you're moving up to 1440p, your CPU might still hold up fine. Higher resolutions often reduce the CPU's demands, so it could help alleviate some of the bottleneck you're experiencing.
