How can I get deleted files on my external drive to go to Trash instead of being permanently deleted?

Hey everyone! Since I upgraded to macOS Sequoia 15.4, I've noticed that whenever I use Cmd+Backspace to delete files from my external drive, they get permanently deleted instead of being sent to the Trash. This isn't happening with files on my Mac's hard drive—only with the external one. Is there a way to change this behavior back to the way it was? I'm using a Mac Mini M1, and I really appreciate any tips!

It sounds like your external drive is formatted as exFAT, which doesn't support some of the Trash features that macOS uses. Formatting it to APFS or macOS Extended (Journaled) might help you get that behavior back. Just keep in mind that reformatting will erase all the data on the drive, so back up anything important before doing that!

Exactly! Just make sure the data is backed up first, since choosing a different format will wipe everything. Good luck!
