I'm wondering if I can extend the life of my laptop by using it as a desktop setup. I primarily use it at my desk at home anyway, and I'm thinking of connecting it to an external monitor and keyboard. Will this actually help increase its lifespan, or is it just a myth?

You might see some benefits, but don't forget if it’s constantly plugged in, your battery will suffer. Still, it’s a good choice for avoiding physical damage and improving ergonomics!
I’m not sure how connecting a monitor and keyboard would extend its life. Can someone explain why that matters?
Sort of! Using it as a desktop reduces wear from transporting it, and having external components lets you keep using it even if certain parts fail. For example, I had a laptop with a cracked screen that could barely hold a charge, but I used it just fine like this.
It may help a little! Keeping it plugged in all the time can be an issue for the battery, so if that's the case, try to keep it charged between 40% and 80%. Also, remember that some laptops can get pretty warm when closed, so just keep an eye on heat.
I've been using my laptop this way for over two years. I only unplug it occasionally, and aside from some dust buildup, everything is still running smoothly. It does help with thermal management, and the hinges last much longer since they don’t get as much stress.

Using a separate keyboard and mouse reduces the strain on the built-in ones, and prevents wear and tear on hinges from opening/closing the lid. Plus, if the screen ever breaks, you can still use it with an external monitor!
