I recently bought my first MacBook Air, and despite being impressed with its performance, I ran into a major issue right out of the gate. During setup, I enabled FileVault and then updated the OS, but when I tried to log in, my password didn't work. I assume I might have mistyped it, but to reset it, I used my recovery key. After logging in with the new password, I encountered an iCloud sync error message that required the old password to resolve! To add to the confusion, I couldn't find the option to 'Reset Encrypted Data'. I called support and, after an hour of troubleshooting, they suggested returning the MacBook since it couldn't be activated without an internet connection after erasing everything. Now, as I prepare to order a new one, I'm worried I'll face the same iCloud issue again when I log in with my Apple Account. Any advice on how to sidestep this problem with the new device?

You should be able to simply create a new Apple ID for your new MacBook, especially since you don't have other Apple devices tied to that account. It might sound drastic, but it could save you from future headaches! As for the password, remember that it does ask you to type it twice during setup, so if you did make a mistake, try typing it out a few times in a notepad before entering. Also, experiencing Wi-Fi connection issues during setup isn’t normal—could be a defective unit!
When your new MacBook arrives, make sure you follow the setup without linking it to your old Apple ID right away. You can skip iCloud setup to avoid any issues with those old files. Once you've set everything up and are comfortable, you can add it back in; just be cautious about the old data that’s tied to your previous device.
Thanks for that tip! I’ll definitely try to set it up without the old account first.

Starting fresh is definitely a solid plan, but if you’re worried, you can also check if you can access your iCloud from a web browser and delete any old files before you set up the new MacBook.
