Help! Can I Recover My Data After a Windows Reinstall and Disk Clean?

I'm in a real bind right now and could use some advice. My laptop's Windows installation got corrupted, preventing me from accessing most apps or the C: drive. The only thing that worked was Chrome, so I decided to reinstall Windows. I used another laptop to create a USB installation media and booted from it. While trying to repair the installation, I accidentally ran the 'clean' command in DiskPart, which I now realize removed the partition structure of my drive. After that, I completed the Windows installation, and now my laptop is at the Windows setup phase asking for network drivers.

I'm really worried about the data that was on the drive—it's very important to me and I'm concerned it might be gone for good. Here are my questions:

- Is there still a chance to recover my old files after running the clean command and reinstalling Windows?
- Should I stop using the laptop right away to prevent overwriting data?
- What's the best recovery method at this point—should I use software tools or go for professional recovery?
- Would it be better to take out the SSD/HDD and connect it to another computer for recovery attempts?

I haven't installed any new programs on the fresh Windows installation yet, and any guidance would really help me understand how to recover whatever data might still be there.

If your data was really important, you should always have backups. It's tough love, but if you don't have a backup, then chances are slim you're gonna recover anything meaningful. Trust me, it's a habit everyone should have.

Your best bet for recovering anything is to run a deep scan recovery app like Recuva from a live USB. Just make sure to have another drive ready to save any recovered files. Don't restore them to the same drive you scanned from. Just a heads up, even with that, don't expect to recover much—it's a long shot.

Sorry to break it to you, but it’s likely your data is lost. Always back up your stuff before fiddling with your operating system. Keeping backups is crucial, especially for moments like this!

Honestly, your data is probably gone. You can give Recuva a try, but don't get your hopes too high; you might only recover a file or two. Remember, once you reinstall Windows, it's more challenging to get anything back since the data on the C: drive has been overwritten.

Regarding your specific questions:

- Recovering data after 'cleaning' and reinstalling isn't easy. Each new piece of data reduces recovery chances.
- Definitely stop using the laptop so you don’t overwrite anything.
- I recommend getting a quote from a professional recovery service if the data is crucial. Trying to do it yourself now that you’ve reinstalled could make things worse.
- Yes, remove the SSD/HDD and connect it to another machine for better recovery chances!

I can't say for certain, but your instinct to stop using the laptop is smart. Unless the drive was completely wiped, there's still a possibility to recover something. I feel for you—I've been in similar situations and know how frustrating it is.
