Does Charging While Playing Affect Battery Drain?

I was watching a video about beating Fallout 4 on the Switch before the battery dies, and it got me thinking about how charging works while playing high-drain games. If I'm using a power bank while gaming, does plugging it in actually help reduce the battery drain? Like, if the charger doesn't directly charge while I'm playing, will it just slow down how fast the battery depletes? I'm curious if it has any real effect or if it just makes things worse for the battery.

Connecting your device to a charger while gaming can help, but it varies based on the charger and your device. For instance, my s20 can handle intensive gaming all day on a good charger without draining, but with a cheap one, I see an error and the battery starts to deplete. So, it’s key that the charger can keep up with your device’s power needs.

Check out Kirchoff’s Current Law for a more detailed understanding of how power flows when the battery and charger share a connection. It can get pretty technical, but it explains how the charging works in relation to battery usage while gaming!

It really depends on the device you're using. Some devices, like most power banks, can't charge the battery while you're using it. If your device does allow charging during use, then yes, plugging it in will help the battery last longer by drawing some power directly from the charger. However, it's important to note that having the device plugged in can generate extra heat, which might not be the best for battery health over time.
