Is it worth upgrading to a 9800x3d if I can’t change my GPU?

I currently have a Ryzen 7600x paired with an MSI RTX 5070 Gaming Trio. I'm considering whether to upgrade to a 9800x3d, especially since I'm planning to get an AORUS X870 motherboard in the next few months. Given that I can't upgrade my GPU at the moment, would it be worthwhile to upgrade my CPU?

I think this might just be a way to waste money. Upgrading the CPU doesn’t make much sense if your motherboard is fine and you're only playing games. If you're at 1440p, definitely prioritize upgrading your GPU first. But if you’re gaming at 1080p and feel your performance is lacking, then the 9800x3d could be a decent option.

Upgrading to the 9800x3d could help with lower frame rate dips in CPU-heavy games, so it’s worth considering. You'll likely see better performance in those scenarios, especially in competitive titles.

Honestly, swapping out your motherboard isn't necessary since you've already got a 7600x. If you’re looking at the 9800x3d, it's really only beneficial if you're using a GPU that's more powerful than the 5090 for gaming at 1080p. I'd suggest considering a 7800x3d or even sticking with your current setup, as either could serve you better without breaking the bank.
