Hey everyone! I'm currently working as a sysadmin at a Managed Service Provider (MSP) and I'm starting to feel pretty burned out. I've been in this field for around 8 years now, and while I used to love tackling technical challenges, these days I'm feeling more and more apathetic. My job involves juggling project work while dealing with constant Helpdesk interruptions, which often leads to mistakes because I can't focus. I'm picking up new technologies, but it feels like I'm just treading water. Lately, I've been feeling numb about the work. Simple tasks, like moving a cable or dealing with a broken laptop, are draining my enthusiasm. I want to enjoy what I do, but right now, I'm just going through the motions. I overhear everyone else talking about certifications and metrics, but honestly, I just want to clock in, earn my paycheck, and go home to spend time with friends. Should I be considering a career change or is this just a common phase in the industry?

It sounds like you're feeling the burnout that many of us experience in MSP environments. A big part of that is being pulled into Helpdesk tasks instead of focusing on sysadmin responsibilities. Maybe consider looking for an internal role at a different company where you can really use your skills and find that joy in the projects again!
