Is upgrading to a 5800XT worth it for 1080p gaming with my current setup?

Hey, everyone! I built my PC about 5 to 6 years ago with a Ryzen 7 3700X and I'm currently using a 2080 Super. Lately, I've been experiencing some issues running newer games, and I'm looking to upgrade. I'm hesitant to switch to AM5 because of the RAM requirements, but I'm considering whether moving to a 5800XT would be beneficial for gaming at 1080p. I feel like there might be a CPU bottleneck, so any advice would be appreciated!

Upgrading to a 5800XT would definitely give you a boost for 1080p gaming, but you should consider the price first. If a 5800XT costs you around $500, check if there are better options like the 5700X3D or 5800X3D available nearby since they might perform better for a similar price.

In my area, the AM4 X3D chips are pretty pricey. I found that for the price of one of those, I could get a 9600X, a new motherboard, and 16GB of DDR5 RAM.

I live in a rural area too, and I haven't seen many good offers for the 5800XT either. Online it's about $500, which feels steep for an upgrade.

If you're considering cooling and performance, I'd recommend the 5700X. It stays much cooler and can hit around 4.85GHz with Precision Boost Overdrive, which is on par with the 5800XT.

Going with a 5800XT would definitely help your 1080p experience. If you're looking for even better performance, consider the 14600KF along with a DDR4 motherboard. Just keep in mind that you'd need to spend around $140 for the motherboard. But first, it's essential to identify where the bottleneck is—whether it's your CPU or GPU. Since your combo is decent, if you're playing FPS games on low settings to maximize frames, a CPU upgrade might help.

Yeah, most of my games run pretty well, but I've had stutters in new releases like ARK and Marathon. I also noticed that when I played Grayzone Warfare, I was only getting around 40 frames. My cousin has a similar setup, but he gets better performance than I do.
