Hey everyone! I'm in a bit of a bind with my Samsung SSD, which has gone into read-only mode after showing some damage. I found out that this seems to be a common issue with Samsung drives, with no firmware updates available before it broke down. I'm looking for recommendations on SSD brands that are more reliable and don't have these kinds of problems. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

WD Black drives are also a great choice if you’re looking for something trustworthy and performance-oriented. They just have a solid track record without the drama that some other brands have.
I've noticed that Samsung consumer NVMe drives have really been acting up lately, getting stuck in read-only mode, and dealing with firmware bugs without timely updates. If you want a reliable option, I'd suggest getting either the Crucial MX500 for SATA or the Crucial P3/P5 Plus for NVMe. They might not be flashy, but they are dependable and won't leave you in a lurch. WD Blue SN570/SN580 are also solid choices, though not the fastest, they tend to hold up well. If you're on a budget, Kingston NV2 is decent, but for overall reliability, Crucial is your safest bet.
TL;DR: Go for Crucial if you want to avoid the kind of issues Samsung has been having.
Too bad Crucial left the consumer market a few months ago to focus on B2B datacenter sales. The MX500 has been discontinued for a while now, but I'd also recommend the Hynix P41 Platinum as one of the best NVMe options out there right now.
The key is to find an SSD with a good write-to-price ratio to get the most value for your money. Pay attention to the specs and do some comparisons to see what fits your needs.

Thanks a lot! I'll look into that 🙂
