Which is the better choice for gaming: CPU or GPU?

I'm feeling really torn between upgrading my setup. Should I go for the combo of the 9070XT with the 9700X, or the 7800X3D paired with the RX 9070? They cost about the same and I primarily play a lot of esports titles as well as some AAA games, all at 1080p. Any advice?

The 9700X is totally sufficient for your needs, you might not need the X3D.

I'd recommend the 7800X3D with the RX 9070 combo. The CPU is significantly better, and while there's a slight drop in GPU performance, the X3D really shines for both esports and AAA games.

For your gaming style, the 7800X3D with the RX 9070 is the clear winner.

It boils down to your priorities. If you care more about high frame rates in 1080p and stability for competitive gaming, then the X3D is definitely the way to go. The RX 9070 is a bit weaker as a GPU compared to the XT, but the 9700X does just fine for casual esports while being better for AAA titles. If you think you might upgrade to higher resolutions in the future, you might lean towards the 9700X + XT instead.
