How can I tell if my HDD is failing?

I received a notification from Unraid saying that my hard drive has 200 read errors. I ran a SMART test and it reported 6 unrecoverable read errors. Since I'm relatively new to this, I tried to understand the results with some help. I then conducted a long SMART report, which I believe should have triggered more errors if there were more issues, but the results remained unchanged. Now, I'm not sure what steps to take. The warranty is still valid for 5 years—should I send the drive for replacement, replace it right away, or is there something else I should do, like running a parity check? Any advice would be appreciated! You can view the reports here: [https://pastebin.com/D5ht4R01](https://pastebin.com/D5ht4R01)

HDDs have a longer lifespan compared to SSDs, so the issue might just be the specific drive. However, I suggest you replace it if you're encountering errors, especially since it's showing signs of failure already.

It’s only been 2.5 years, which is still young for an enterprise drive, so I'm surprised to hear you're having issues already.

Actually, that's a bit misleading. HDDs can endure a good amount of read/write cycles, they just tend to be slower than SSDs.

Don't wait around! Backup your data immediately. Whether it's an HDD or SSD, if you're getting errors, replace the drive. You don’t want to risk data loss!

Keep in mind that HDDs can last longer under certain conditions. However, if you're already seeing errors, it's better to backup your data and get that drive replaced.

It sounds like your HDD is on its way out. I’d recommend sending it in for a replacement while it’s still under warranty. Don’t take any chances with your data!
