Are my i7-14700K temperatures normal during gaming?

I recently set up an i7-14700K with a 240mm All-in-One cooler and a 4070 Ti Super. I rarely pay attention to temps, but I've noticed they typically range from the mid-30s to low 40s during regular use. When I'm playing Fortnite, my CPU temps usually sit between 50-60°C, but I've seen spikes up to 80°C while in the lobby, depending on the game. In something more demanding like Cyberpunk, my temps also reach 70-75°C. Sometimes they spike briefly and then drop back down; is that normal? I'm a bit worried about the spikes, especially the ones hitting up to 80°C even in the lobby.

80°C is fine for your setup! The CPU can take a lot of heat, but if you're seeing up to 100°C, that's when thermal throttling starts. As for undervolting, that's an option, but it probably won't make a huge difference. You're pretty good as is with your setup.

Should I consider undervolting?

Not essential, as your temps are manageable, but it can help if you want cooler operation.

Try adjusting your CPU fan curve in the BIOS. Mine was set to 100% at 70°C, but I changed it to activate at 60°C, and it keeps my temps around 62-64°C under full load.

Yeah, what you're experiencing is pretty normal. The i7-14700K can run hot under load, especially during intensive tasks. It's designed to handle high temperatures, but just keep an eye on it if you start hitting 100°C, as that would trigger thermal throttling.

Should I think about undervolting the CPU?

Not really necessary unless you're concerned, but it could help with temps a bit.

Those temperatures are actually really good for an i7-14700K, especially with a 240mm cooler. Don't stress too much about it!

You might be spiking in the lobby due to high frame rates. That happened to me in other games too. Consider adjusting your settings to cap frame rates if it bothers you.
