I've been in the software world for a while now, first in support and as a project manager. Recently I transitioned to a developer role after going back to school, but honestly, I'm not enjoying it at all. I feel like it's a huge mistake, especially since I thought it would be a good move for better pay. Now, I'm just stuck and don't know where to turn next. I'm not very creative and my mind feels blank. I'm willing to put in hard work, but I'm starting to wonder if there are other roles in tech that might be a better fit for me. Any advice?

Software sales could be another route for you to explore!
DevOps might be a good avenue for you! I know someone who started out as a dev and didn’t like it, but now he’s in DevOps and thriving at the same company.
I relate to your feelings – moving from revenue operations to development was tough for me too. It felt like a mistake at first, but after a couple of years at a new company, I’m doing much better. It’s important to reflect on where these feelings are coming from. You might just need a different workplace that encourages growth. Hang in there!
If you were a project manager before, I’d suggest seeking another PM role at a different company!
This experience might actually make you a better project manager in the software field down the line.
Have you thought about whether it’s really the job or the company culture that’s making you unhappy? You might do better in a different environment.
Consider becoming a technical project manager. It basically combines your previous PM skills with tech, and you can earn better too!
Why not start a 'how to learn programming' course or even a podcast on programming? It could give you a new perspective!
