Which GPU Should I Choose for Video Editing and Gen AI?

I'm upgrading my PC soon and I'm torn between two GPUs. I use my computer for video editing, gaming, and I also want to run some work-related Generative AI models. I'm considering an Nvidia GPU and I'm trying to decide between a 5060ti with 16 GB of VRAM or a 5070 with 12 GB of VRAM. I know VRAM is crucial for productivity tasks, but I've heard the 5070 is faster. Given that my main focus is work and I can play games at lower settings, which one would better suit my needs? I'm on a budget, so the 5070ti is out of reach for now, but I plan to upgrade to a 5080 later.

What kind of AI work are you planning to do? If you're generating images or videos, the 5070's speed might suit you better even with 12 GB of VRAM. Just be mindful of the memory demands of the AI models—some might require more than either card offers. Investigating your specific model's needs could simplify your choice.

I'm mainly looking into image and video generation—that's my main focus right now.

If you're running models in the cloud, then the GPU won't matter that much. But since you're interested in local AI work, think about your specific needs. If you can handle cutting down on some performance, the 5060ti is fine. But if VRAM and speed are crucial for what you're doing, 5070 is the way to go. Also keep saving for that 5080 upgrade—you’ll be happy later!

Yeah, I'm mostly running models locally, so I'll take the performance hit into account. Thanks for the insight!

In terms of VRAM, for tasks involving large AI models, the memory matters a lot. If you're mostly editing videos, the 5070 is likely the better choice overall. It's faster, which is nice for rendering times, even if it has less VRAM. But remember, if your AI models are running locally, it's worth considering whether 12 GB will be sufficient for them. If you're focused on productivity, I’d say go with the 5070.

I'm using Adobe and Davinci too, and I think the 5070 really speeds up the editing process without making you wait forever to render.
