Am I Really An Entry-Level Sysadmin?

I've been working in a support role for three months now, focusing on tasks like server health checks, cleaning up C drives, and handling basic user tickets such as restarting services. It feels pretty repetitive, and I'm starting to wonder about my future here. My company offers certifications in Azure, AWS, and GCP, along with access to Udemy courses. What path should I take to advance in my career?

I had a similar experience with my first job in IT, but I also monitored backup jobs and handled antivirus checks. You could definitely consider yourself an entry-level sysadmin since you’re dealing with crucial systems. After a few months, I transitioned into a more challenging role in the service desk, and it really helped me grow. There is definitely potential for growth if you’re willing to take the initiative!

It sounds like you're doing tasks similar to what a service desk does, and honestly, many of these tasks could be automated. But don't underestimate their value! To move forward, you need to engage more with your work. Try talking to your colleagues about what they're doing, and see if there are projects you can assist with to stretch your skills. Let your team lead know you're interested in getting certified too; being proactive can really open doors.
