I've got an old computer from my previous job, but they've disabled it so I can't use it at all, not even after a reformat. Is there any way to completely remove the company's restrictions and make it my personal PC?

Flash the BIOS? That's a good thought! It might work, but it really depends on how the device is secured. You might need to be careful with that to avoid more issues.
You might want to consider the hardware side, too. If the company used Intel vPro to lock it down, that's tricky. You’d need access to the password for iAMT to reset it. Otherwise, swapping the motherboard would definitely do the trick.
If it's just a matter of software restrictions, trying out Linux could be your best bet. It often bypasses company locks and gives you a fresh start.
If they won’t help you to remove the locks and you're not supposed to have it, returning the device might be the better choice. Keeping it could create problems.
If you're allowed, just contact the IT department and ask them to remove it from their device management, or even better, try to get them to consent to you using it personally.
