Will an RTX 5080 Work Well on a PCI-E 3.0 Motherboard?

I'm planning to upgrade from my RTX 2080 Ti to an RTX 5080 soon, but my motherboard only supports PCI-E 3.0. I'm wondering if this will create any bottleneck for my new GPU and how much performance loss I might expect. Any insights would be appreciated!

The difference in performance between PCI-E 3.0 and a higher version is usually around 3-4%. The real variable is your CPU—if it’s not strong enough, that could lead to a 10-20% hit in performance depending on the game and resolution. Just keep that in mind!

You shouldn’t lose too much performance—maybe around 5% at most, which is about 1-5 FPS. Just be careful about running out of VRAM, as that can really slow things down, but it's rare to need more than 16GB.

From what I’ve seen, the typical performance drop is about 3-4%. It matters but it’s not a reason to rush into upgrading your motherboard or CPU right away.

If you're planning a motherboard upgrade soon, don't stress too much about the PCI-E version. Your 9th gen CPU will have more impact on performance than sticking with PCI-E 3.0.

You might see a performance loss of about 4% at most when using PCI-E 3.0. However, the bigger concern could be your CPU. If your motherboard only supports 3.0, chances are your CPU is a bit older too, and it might end up being the main bottleneck instead.
