Is Upgrading to an RTX 4070 Super or 5070 Ti Worth It?

Hey everyone! I'm considering upgrading my setup and I'm torn between getting an RTX 4070 Super or an RTX 5070 Ti. The price of the 5070 Ti is about 1.5 to 2 times that of the 4070 where I live, so I'm not sure if that extra cost is justified. I'm also looking at upgrading my CPU to either a Ryzen 7 7800X3D or a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, but that's around an additional 100 euros for the performance boost. Currently, I have an old motherboard that would need replacing, which means I'd need to invest in DDR5 RAM too. I've heard that the X3D CPUs can offset the lack of RAM to some extent. Any advice or motherboard recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Here are my current specs:
- GPU: RTX 4060
- CPU: i7-7700k
- Motherboard: Asrock Z270M Pro4
- RAM: 2x16GB DDR4

I’m using a 4070 Super, and it runs all the latest games like a champ at 4K. Even games like the notoriously unoptimized BL4 run smooth at 80-90 fps with high-ultra settings thanks to DLSS. If you’re mainly gaming at higher resolutions, the 4070 Super is solid choice!

What other specs do you have?

You don't have to go with the latest AM5 platform; AM4 is still quite solid and more budget-friendly. If you choose AM4, you can pair it with a CPU like the Ryzen 7 5800X3D which will work well with either a 4070 or 5070 Ti. Also, you can keep your current DDR4 RAM, which saves you money compared to switching to DDR5. Maybe check out PCPartPicker to compare pricing and see which option fits better for your budget.

About that claim that X3D CPUs can compensate for lack of RAM, it's really not that significant. You'll need DDR5 anyway, and considering the current RAM prices, it might not be cost-effective. You might want to stick with DDR4 platforms like AMD's 5000 series or Intel's 12th gen, which could save you money on RAM. For instance, a Ryzen 5 5600 or an Intel 12400F would give you good performance without needing to switch to DDR5 and they are worth checking out.
