Hey everyone! I'm in the process of launching a website for my solo consulting business. Right now, all I need is a professional email to create a trustworthy image. However, I plan to expand this into a full site showcasing my services and portfolio in the future. I've been looking into options like Wix, Hostinger, and Shopify, but I'm confused about which registrar makes sense for a small setup without breaking the bank each year. Has anyone recently purchased a domain and email hosting? Which companies did you choose, and would you recommend them? Any tips on keeping costs low would also be really appreciated. Thanks a bunch!

Wix worked well for me when I set up my freelance business. It was super straightforward to get both a domain and email going quickly. The email interface is way better than most other options I've tried.
If you're looking for everything in one place, Cloudflare is a great choice. They offer domain registration at cost with no markup, so you're paying exactly what the registry charges. Plus, you won't face any surprising renewal price hikes like with other registrars.
Thanks for the suggestion! I hadn’t thought about using them.
I’ve been using Namecheap for years and really like it. Their pricing stays reasonable for renewals as well, and they offer good customer service. You could pair it with something like Zoho for email, which is also friendly on the wallet.
Just a tip: when picking a registrar, make sure to read the fine print! Some places offer low initial prices but jack up the renewal fees later on. My suggestion is to stick with a reliable registrar like Namecheap or even Infomaniak which offers a free email with domain registration.
I highly recommend Porkbun for domain registration. They offer the cheapest domains without all the upselling nonsense. For email hosting, you can’t go wrong with Google Workspace; it's just $5/month per email address, and you get that familiar Gmail interface. Just a heads-up, avoid GoDaddy and Shopify for registration. They can end up holding your domain hostage if you don't buy their other services.
Totally agree! I've had similar experiences, and Porkbun’s only downside is the odd autocomplete feature. But overall, it’s a solid choice.
Yeah, I can vouch for that too! Plus, you get free WHOIS privacy with Porkbun.

Exactly! Cloudflare is definitely worth considering.
